Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Lettout ("Lettout", "we", "us", or "our") collects, why we collect it, and what we do with it. Lettout is currently operated by Ishan, founder of Lettout (incorporation of Lettout's operating entity, Vesper Labs OPC Private Limited, is in progress; this policy will be updated to reflect the company once registration is complete). We built Lettout to be a private, anonymous place to let things out. Privacy isn't a feature we bolted on — it's the point. This policy reflects that.

The short version

• We do not ask for your real name, and your account is anonymous by design.
• We assign you a random pseudonym (like "quiet_fox") that cannot be traced back to your real identity.
• The things you write ("vents") auto-delete on a schedule you control.
• We use a third-party AI service to check new posts for signs of immediate crisis, purely to offer help — not to moderate, profile, or judge you.
• We do not sell your data. We don't run ads.
• You can delete your content or your entire account at any time.

Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to everyone who uses lettout.com, whether you've joined our pre-launch waitlist or you're using the full app. Some sections (for example, those about vents, payments, and AI safety checks) only apply once the full app is available and you're a subscriber.

What we collect

If you join the waitlist: We collect your email address and the rough source of your signup (for example, "website"). That's it. We use this only to let you know when Lettout opens and, occasionally, to share important updates about the launch. We do not share or sell this list.

If you use the app: Because the app is anonymous, we deliberately collect as little as possible:

• A randomly generated pseudonym and an avatar color. These are assigned automatically. They are not derived from, and cannot be linked to, your real identity.
• The content of your vents and responses, the room you posted them in, and your reaction choices. This is stored so the app can function.
• Your subscription status and a payment reference managed by our payment processor (see "Payments" below). We never see or store your card number.
• Basic technical information needed to keep the service running and secure.

We do not collect your real name, your phone number, or (beyond what's needed to create your anonymous session) any identifying personal profile.

How your information is used

We use the limited information we collect to:

• Operate the core features of Lettout (posting, reactions, responses).
• Send you waitlist or account-related communications.
• Process your subscription payment.
• Detect signs of an immediate safety crisis in newly posted content, so we can offer supportive resources (explained next).
• Keep the platform secure and prevent abuse.

We do not use your content to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell your data to anyone.

The AI safety layer (important — please read)

When you post a vent, the text of that vent is sent to a third-party AI service (Anthropic's Claude API) for a single, narrow purpose: to detect clear signals of an immediate self-harm or suicidal crisis. If such signals are detected, Lettout shows you a gentle message with a link to crisis support resources. Your post is never blocked or delayed by this check.

A few things we want you to know clearly:

• The AI check looks only for immediate-crisis signals. It is not general content moderation, and it does not score, rate, or profile you.
• We do not store the content of your vent alongside any crisis flag. If a vent is flagged, we record only an internal reference ID and a timestamp — never the words you wrote.
• We use this AI provider's standard commercial API for this check, not their consumer chat product. We have not enrolled in any program that would share this data for model training, and standard API usage of this kind is not used to train the provider's models unless an organization explicitly opts into a separate, voluntary program — which Lettout has not done. You can ask us for current details at hello@lettout.com.

Because your vent content passes through this external service for the safety check, we disclose it here so you can make an informed choice about what you write.

Payments

Subscriptions are handled by Stripe, a third-party payment processor. When you subscribe, you enter your payment details directly with Stripe. Lettout never sees, handles, or stores your full card number. We only receive a reference confirming whether your subscription is active. Stripe's own privacy practices govern the payment information you give them.

How long we keep things

• Vents and responses: These auto-delete based on the setting you choose (for example, 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or kept until you remove them). When a vent is deleted, its associated reactions and responses are deleted too.
• Waitlist emails: Kept until launch communications are complete, or until you ask us to remove you.
• Account data: Kept while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your profile and associated content (see "Your choices").

Your choices and rights

You are in control of your data. You can:

• Delete individual vents at any time from within the app.
• Delete all your vents at once from your profile settings.
• Delete your entire account, which removes your profile and associated content from our systems.
• Leave the waitlist by emailing hello@lettout.com.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under your local data protection laws — including the right to access, correct, or erase your personal data, and to withdraw consent. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA), you have rights regarding the personal data we process. To exercise any of these, contact us at hello@lettout.com and we'll respond within a reasonable time.

Where your data is stored

Lettout's data is stored using Supabase, with our database currently hosted in the United States (US East region). By using Lettout, you understand your information may be processed and stored in a country different from your own. We take reasonable steps to protect it wherever it is held.

Children

Lettout is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe a minor has used Lettout, contact us at hello@lettout.com and we will take appropriate steps.

Security

We use industry-standard measures — including database access controls, encryption in transit, and restricted internal access — to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously, particularly given the sensitive nature of what people share here. As the operator, we limit and discipline our own access to user content; we only access it when responding to a specific safety flag or report.

Legal disclosures

In rare circumstances, we may be legally required to disclose information — for example, in response to a valid legal order, or where content suggests a credible, imminent threat to someone's safety. We will resist overbroad requests where we reasonably can, consistent with applicable law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Lettout evolves. If we make significant changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you.
